Warlock: Term originally meant "deceiver" or " one who misleads," in more modern parlance has become associated with a male witch. Warm Spot: An area or place that for an unknown reason seems to be warmer than the surrounding areas. Paranormal investigators usually use thermometers to detect the fluctuations of temperature in a location. Werewolf: (Old/Middle English word for man = were) A human being capable of transforming into the form of a wolf (or any variety of animals), then back to human; sometimes referred to as a "Shape-Shifter." White Noise: Acoustical or electrical noise of which the intensity is the same at all frequencies within a given band. Wiccans in their rituals align themselves with elementals and the earth's natural magnetic fields, personified by the names of ancient Greek, Egyptian and Sumerian deities. Witch: Broadly, a practitioner of the magic arts, spec. a woman who employs charms, herbs and incantations to affect the workings of her will. Witchcraft: Witchcraft is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a practitioner of witchcraft. While the term "witchcraft" can have positive or negative connotations depending on cultural context, most contemporary people who self-identify as witches see it as beneficent and morally positive. The term witch is typically feminine, masculine equivalents include wizard, sorcerer, warlock and magician. Witching Hour: Most believe this is the hour from Midnight to 1 AM on nights of a full moon. It's an important time, for witches reportedly draw their strength from the moon. As for how the "witching hour" affects haunting activity, it is believed that most activity occurs between midnight and 3 AM. This is when the majority of buildings and private homes are at their calmest. The workers and/or residents are usually asleep or relaxed. Our guard is down and our senses are more aware of our surroundings, since the normal, everyday distractions are not present. Wizard: A male sorcerer and conjurer who is especially adept and experienced in his craft. Wraith: An apparition of a living person that appears as a portent just before that person's death. |
